How to Write a Resume Summary as a Fresher (With Examples)

Quick Work Studio · 2026-10-26

A resume summary is the two or three lines at the top of your resume that tell a recruiter who you are and why you fit the job. Recruiters often skim a resume in well under a minute, so this short paragraph decides whether they keep reading. As a fresher you don't have years of experience to list, but you can still write a strong one.

The three-part formula

  1. Who you are: your degree, subject and graduation year.
  2. Proof: one or two concrete things you've done: an internship, a project, a certification, a result. Use numbers where you honestly can.
  3. What you want: the role you are applying for, in the employer's words.

Keep it to about 40–60 words. Skip "I" and "my": resume summaries are usually written without them.

Phrases recruiters skip

Tailor it for each job

Read the job post and reuse two or three of its key words, as long as they're true for you. Many companies use software that screens resumes for matching keywords, and a summary that echoes the role ("junior accountant", "GST", "Tally") helps you get past it and catches a human eye too.

Summary vs objective

An "objective" talks about what you want; a "summary" talks about what you offer. Today most recruiters prefer a summary, ending with a short line about the role you want, which covers both.
