Bill Split Calculator
Split any bill evenly between friends, with a rounded-up amount so nobody has to deal with loose change.
About the Bill Split Calculator
The Bill Split Calculator divides a total evenly between any number of people. Add an optional service charge or tip, choose how to round each share, and it shows what everyone pays, how much is left over, and a message you can copy straight into your group chat.
What you can do with the Bill Split Calculator
- Even split: Divide any total between any number of people.
- Service and tip: Add an optional service charge or tip.
- Rounding options: Round shares and see what's left over.
- Group chat message: Copy a ready-made message for WhatsApp.
Why rounding up helps
An even split often leaves awkward amounts, like ₹612.50 each. Rounding up to ₹620 makes cash payments and UPI transfers simpler, and the calculator shows exactly how much extra that collects, often enough to cover a small tip.
Add the service charge first
Split the final amount, including service charge and any tip, so nobody is short at the end. Tap +5%, +10% or +15% to add it before splitting.
When an even split isn't fair
If some people ordered much more than others, or some didn't drink, splitting evenly isn't fair. Add up each person's items separately, then share the tax and tip in proportion.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I split a bill evenly?
Enter the total and set the number of people. Each person's share appears instantly, along with a rounded amount.
What should we do with the extra from rounding up?
It's commonly left as a tip, or one person can refund the difference. The "Left over" box shows exactly how much it is.
Can I send the split to my friends?
Yes. Tap "Copy message" and paste it into WhatsApp or any chat.
Can I split rent or trip costs too?
Yes, any shared total works the same way.
Is service charge compulsory at restaurants in India?
No. Under guidelines issued by the Central Consumer Protection Authority in 2022, restaurants cannot add a service charge automatically or make it a condition of service; paying it is your choice. In this tool, service charge or tip is optional and set to None by default.
Should I add the tip before or after GST?
Enter the final bill you are paying, including GST, in the Total bill box. The tool then adds the service charge or tip percentage you choose on top of that total. If you prefer to tip only on the food amount, work it out separately and add it to the bill.
How do I get the exact share for a UPI payment?
Set rounding to ₹1. Each share is then rounded up to the nearest rupee, so ₹2,450 between 4 people becomes ₹613 each, collecting ₹2,452, with only ₹2 left over. Rounding to ₹10, ₹50 or ₹100 makes cash easier but collects more.
Why does rounding collect more than the bill?
Each share is always rounded up, never down, so the payer is never left short. With ₹2,450 split 4 ways and ₹10 rounding, everyone pays ₹620 instead of ₹612.50, collecting ₹2,480. The Left over figure shows the extra, here ₹30.
How do I split a bill when one person ordered much more?
This tool splits evenly only. For an uneven split, take out that person's extra items first, split the rest evenly here, and add their extra on top of their share. For items shared by a few people, split those separately among them.
How do I add a 10% service charge?
Tap the +10% chip under "Add service charge or tip". The tool multiplies the bill by 1.10 before dividing it. ₹2,450 becomes ₹2,695, so 4 people pay ₹673.75 each exactly, or ₹680 each when rounded up to the nearest ₹10.
How many people can I split a bill between?
Up to 100 people, set with the Number of people stepper. Each share is shown individually for up to 12 people, and the exact share, total collected and amount left over work for any group size, which helps for office parties or class trips.
