Unit Price Comparator

Compare up to three packs by price per 100 g, per 100 ml or per item, mixed units like g and kg are converted for you.

About the Unit Price Comparator

The Unit Price Comparator shows which pack is better value by working out the price per 100 g, per 100 ml or per item. Compare two or three packs at once, enter each quantity in whichever unit is printed on it, grams or kilograms, millilitres or litres, and bars show the price per unit with the best value marked.

What you can do with the Unit Price Comparator

Why bigger isn't always cheaper

Larger packs often cost less per unit, but not always: promotions on smaller sizes can flip that. Comparing the price per unit is the only reliable way to tell.

Mixed units are handled for you

If one pack is 1 kg and the other is 500 g, just pick kg for one and g for the other. The calculator converts both to the same unit before comparing, so there's no risk of being out by a factor of 1,000.

Shrinkflation

Manufacturers sometimes keep the price the same but reduce the contents, a pack that was 500 g quietly becomes 450 g. Checking the unit price catches this even when the shelf price hasn't changed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate price per unit?

Divide the price by the quantity. A 450 g pack for ₹90 costs ₹0.20 per gram, or ₹20 per 100 g.

What if the packs are counted in pieces?

Choose "Count" at the top and enter the number of pieces, for example, 12 eggs or 3 bars of soap.

Can I compare more than two packs?

Yes, up to three. Tap "+ Add a third pack".

Should I always buy the better-value option?

Only if you'll use it before it goes off. A bigger pack isn't a saving if half of it is wasted.

How do I compare a 500 g pack with a 1 kg pack?

Enter each quantity with the unit printed on it, choosing g for one and kg for the other. The tool converts both to price per 100 g. For ₹99 for 500 g and ₹179 for 1 kg, that is ₹19.80 against ₹17.90 per 100 g, so the 1 kg pack wins.

How is the percentage saving worked out?

It compares the price per unit, not the pack price: (dearer unit price − cheaper unit price) ÷ dearer unit price × 100. At ₹19.80 and ₹17.90 per 100 g, the cheaper pack is (1.90 ÷ 19.80) × 100, or about 9.6% cheaper.

How do I compare a buy 2 get 1 free offer?

Enter the total you pay and the total quantity you get. If a 200 g pack costs ₹60 and the offer gives three for ₹120, enter ₹120 for 600 g. That works out to ₹20 per 100 g, against ₹30 per 100 g for a single pack.

Should I enter the MRP or the price I actually pay?

Enter the price you actually pay after any discount. The MRP is only the maximum the seller may charge, and supermarkets and apps often sell below it, so comparing MRPs can point you to the wrong pack.

Can I compare a pack sold in litres with one sold in kilograms?

No, the tool compares packs of one kind at a time: Weight, Volume or Count. Products like cooking oil or ghee are sometimes sold by litre and sometimes by kilogram; compare those only against packs measured the same way, or check the label for the weight.

Is the unit price already printed on the pack?

In India, packaged goods are generally required to show a unit sale price, such as per kg or per litre, alongside the MRP. It can be small, labelled differently or missing on some packs, and it doesn't reflect discounts, so this tool helps when comparing actual offer prices.

How do I compare egg trays or packs of different counts?

Choose Count and enter the number of items in each pack. A tray of 6 eggs for ₹48 works out to ₹8 per egg, while 30 for ₹210 is ₹7 per egg, so the bigger tray is cheaper per egg, provided you can use them before they spoil.
