PPF Calculator

See how much your Public Provident Fund grows over 15 years or more at the current 7.1% rate, with tax-free interest.

How PPF works

The Public Provident Fund is a government savings scheme that runs for 15 years. You can put in between ₹500 and ₹1.5 lakh each financial year, and it can be extended in blocks of 5 years after maturity. The rate is set by the government every quarter. It is 7.1% for October to December 2026.

What you can do with the PPF Calculator

Why PPF is popular

PPF is EEE: what you put in counts for section 80C in the old tax regime, the interest is tax-free, and the maturity amount is tax-free. It is backed by the government, so the money is very safe.

Deposit before the 5th

Interest is worked out on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of each month. Depositing by the 5th of April each year earns interest for the full year.

Can I withdraw before 15 years?

Partial withdrawals are allowed from the 7th financial year, and you can take a loan against PPF from the 3rd to the 6th year.

What is the PPF interest rate now?

7.1% a year for October to December 2026. The government reviews it every quarter.

What if I extend PPF to 20 years?

₹1.5 lakh a year at 7.1% grows to about ₹66.58 lakh after 20 years, and about ₹1.03 crore after 25 years.

What is the minimum and maximum PPF deposit?

At least ₹500 and at most ₹1.5 lakh in a financial year. You can deposit in one go or in parts.

What if I miss the minimum deposit?

The account becomes inactive. You can revive it by paying ₹50 for each missed year plus the ₹500 minimum for each year.

Is PPF better than FD?

PPF interest is tax-free and the deposit counts for 80C in the old regime, so its after-tax return is often higher than an FD. But the money is locked for 15 years, with only partial withdrawals after the 7th year.

Can I open PPF for my child?

Yes, a parent can open one for a minor. The ₹1.5 lakh yearly limit is shared between your account and your child's.

Why should I deposit before the 5th of the month?

PPF interest for a month is based on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day. Money added after the 5th earns nothing for that month.
