Income Tax Calculator
Compare your income tax under the new and old regimes for FY 2026-27, with the standard deduction, 87A rebate, surcharge and cess worked out.
New regime or old regime?
The new regime has lower rates and wider slabs but almost no deductions. The old regime has higher rates but lets you claim 80C, HRA, 80D, home loan interest and more. Which is better depends on how much you can claim. Fill in your deductions and the calculator shows both totals side by side, with the cheaper one marked.

Slabs for FY 2026-27
New regime: up to ₹4 lakh nil, ₹4–8 lakh 5%, ₹8–12 lakh 10%, ₹12–16 lakh 15%, ₹16–20 lakh 20%, ₹20–24 lakh 25%, above ₹24 lakh 30%. Old regime (below 60): up to ₹2.5 lakh nil, ₹2.5–5 lakh 5%, ₹5–10 lakh 20%, above ₹10 lakh 30%. Seniors get a higher exemption in the old regime: ₹3 lakh at 60 to 79 and ₹5 lakh at 80 or above. Budget 2026 kept these the same as FY 2025-26.
Why ₹12 lakh is tax-free in the new regime
If your taxable income is ₹12 lakh or less, the section 87A rebate (up to ₹60,000) cancels your tax. With the ₹75,000 standard deduction, a salary up to ₹12.75 lakh pays no tax. Just above the limit, marginal relief makes sure your tax is never more than the income above ₹12 lakh.
What is not included
Capital gains and other income taxed at special rates follow their own rules and are not part of this calculation. The calculator is for resident individuals and gives a close estimate, not tax advice.
