Converters

Pressure Converter

Convert between pascal, bar, psi and atm.

About the Pressure Converter

The Pressure Converter works with pascals, kilopascals, bar, psi, standard atmospheres and millimetres of mercury, the units used for tyres, weather, engineering and blood pressure.

What you can do with the Pressure Converter

Tyre pressure: psi and bar

Car tyres are usually inflated to around 30–35 psi, which is about 2.1–2.4 bar. One bar is roughly 14.5 psi. Tyre gauges show pressure above the surrounding air (gauge pressure), not the total (absolute) pressure.

Atmospheres and weather

One standard atmosphere is defined as exactly 101,325 pascals, about the average air pressure at sea level. Weather maps usually show it in hectopascals or millibars, where normal sea-level pressure is around 1,013.

mmHg and blood pressure

Millimetres of mercury come from old mercury barometers and are still the standard unit for blood pressure readings. One standard atmosphere equals 760 mmHg.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many psi is 1 bar?

About 14.5 psi.

What's the difference between kPa and Pa?

A kilopascal is 1,000 pascals. Tyre pressures are often given in kPa in metric countries, 220 kPa is about 32 psi.

Is 1 bar the same as 1 atmosphere?

Almost, but not quite: 1 atm is 1.01325 bar.

What is 32 psi in bar?

32 psi is about 2.21 bar, or about 220.6 kPa. Tyre pressures in India are usually given in psi on the door sticker, while some pumps show bar. Type 32 with psi selected to see all the other units. Always follow your vehicle maker's recommended pressure.

What is 120 mmHg in kPa?

120 mmHg is about 16.0 kPa, since 1 mmHg is about 133.32 pascals. Blood pressure is written in mmHg in India, while some scientific papers use kPa. This tool converts the units only; ask a doctor what a reading means for you.

How many psi is 1 atmosphere?

One standard atmosphere is exactly 101,325 Pa, which is about 14.70 psi, 1.01325 bar or 760 mmHg. It is the average air pressure at sea level. Pick atm and psi, or read all the units from the "In every unit" list.

How do I convert kg/cm² to psi or bar?

kg/cm² is not in the unit list. One kgf/cm² is 98,066.5 Pa, which is about 0.981 bar or 14.22 psi. Indian compressors and older gauges often use it, so multiply by 98.0665 and type the kPa value here.

What is the difference between gauge and absolute pressure?

Gauge pressure is measured above the surrounding air pressure, so a tyre gauge reads zero when flat. Absolute pressure adds about 1 atm, or 14.7 psi, at sea level. Make sure both values are the same type before converting or comparing them.

Is mmHg the same as torr?

Almost. One torr is exactly 1/760 of an atmosphere, about 133.32237 Pa, while 1 mmHg is about 133.32239 Pa, a difference of less than one part in a million. You can treat them as equal and use the mmHg option here.

How many pascals are in 1 bar?

One bar is exactly 100,000 pascals, or 100 kPa. That is slightly less than one standard atmosphere of 101,325 Pa. Weather maps often use millibars or hectopascals, and 1 millibar equals 1 hPa, which is 100 Pa.

Can I type the pressure in either box?

Yes. Both boxes are editable, so typing a value in the second box updates the first one as you type. The ⇅ button swaps the two units, and tapping a unit in the "In every unit" list makes it the second unit.
