Quick Notes

A private scratchpad that saves automatically on your device, no account needed, with word count, copy and download as a text file.

About the Quick Notes

Quick Notes is a private notebook that saves as you type, on your device. Your notes show as colourful cards; pin the important ones to the top, add tags like #study or #home, and search everything. Inside a note you can add headings, bold text, bullet lists and checklists you tick with one tap. Share, copy or download any note. No sign-up.

What you can do with the Quick Notes

Checklists that work like a real list

Tap the checklist button, or start a line with "[ ] ", and every Enter adds a new box. Press Enter on an empty box to stop the list. When you are not typing, tap a box to tick it; ticked items are crossed out but kept, so a shopping list can be reused next week by unticking.

Organise with colours, pins and tags

Give each note one of seven colours so you can spot it at a glance, pin the ones you open every day so they stay first, and add up to eight tags. The chips above the board filter by Pinned or by any tag, and the search box looks through titles, text and tags.

Where your notes are kept

Notes are saved in your browser's local storage on this device only. They aren't uploaded to any server, so nobody else can read them, but they also won't appear on your other devices. Clearing your browser data deletes them, so use "Download all notes" now and then for anything important.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my notes private?

Yes. They stay on your device. If you sign in and turn on Sync notes & tasks in Settings, a copy is kept in your account so it appears on your other devices, and you can delete that copy at any time. Notes are never shared with anyone else.

How do I make a checklist?

Tap the checklist button in the toolbar, or start a line with "[ ] ". Each Enter adds a new box; tap a box to tick it when you are reading the note.

Can I open my notes on another phone?

Not yet. They're stored only in this browser. Download them as a .txt file to move them.

How do I make a checklist?

Tap the checklist button in the toolbar, or start a line with "[ ] " (square brackets with a space). Each time you press Enter a new box is added. Press Enter on an empty box to end the list.

How do I tick an item in a checklist?

When you are reading the note (not typing), tap the box or the item. It turns into a green tick and the text is crossed out. Tap it again to untick.

Can I use bold text, headings or bullet points?

Yes. Use the toolbar: H makes the line a heading, B makes the selected words bold, and the list button starts bullet points. In the saved text these appear as "# ", **double stars** and "- ", so they still read well when you copy or download the note.

How do I change a note's colour?

Open the note and tap the palette button at the top. Pick one of the seven colours and the card on the board changes straight away.

What does pinning a note do?

A pinned note always stays at the top of the board, before newer notes, and shows a small pin. The Pinned chip above the board shows only your pinned notes. Tap the pin again to unpin.

How do tags work?

Tap "+ tag" under the title and type a word like study, home or work. Each tag becomes a chip above the board, so you can see all notes with that tag in one tap. A note can have up to eight tags; tap a tag in the note to remove it.

Does the search look inside my notes?

Yes. It searches titles, the full text and tags, and ignores capital letters. Clear the box to see all notes again.

How do I know my note has been saved?

A moment after you stop typing, "Saved" with a green tick appears at the top of the note. There is no save button to press.

How do I send a note on WhatsApp or by email?

Open the note and tap the share button at the top. On phones this opens your share menu so you can pick WhatsApp, Gmail or any app. If sharing isn't available, the note is copied so you can paste it.

How do I save a copy of all my notes at once?

Tap "Download all notes" under the board. You get one plain text file with every note, its tags and the date it last changed.

Can I get back a note I deleted?

No. Deleting removes the note for good, and the tool asks you first if the note has any text. Download it before deleting if you might need it later.

What happened to the notes I wrote before this update?

They are all still here. They now show as cards on the board, with a colour added. Nothing was changed inside them.
