Stopwatch

An online stopwatch with tenths of a second, pause and resume, and lap times showing each split and the running total.

About the Stopwatch

The Stopwatch measures time to a hundredth of a second, with pause and resume and unlimited laps. It shows the current lap as it runs, highlights your fastest and slowest laps, works out the average lap, and lets you copy all your laps at once.

What you can do with the Stopwatch

Laps and splits

Tap Lap at the end of each round, rep or section. The lap time shows how long that round took, while the total shows the time since you started, useful for comparing rounds and keeping an eye on overall pace.

Spot your best and worst rounds

Once you have two or more laps, the fastest is marked ▲ fastest and the slowest ▼ slowest, and the average lap is shown above the table, so you can see at a glance whether you're keeping an even pace.

What people time

Runs and workout circuits, speeches and presentation rehearsals, cooking steps, reading speed, experiments in class, and how long tasks really take.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a lap and a split?

Here, the lap time is the duration of that single round, and the total is the cumulative time, sometimes called the split.

Does the stopwatch keep running when I leave the page?

It keeps time while the tool is open, even in a background tab. Closing the tool resets it.

How precise is it?

The display shows hundredths of a second. Reaction time when tapping is usually the biggest source of error.

How do I pause and resume the stopwatch?

Tap Start to begin, and the button changes to Pause. Tap it to stop the clock, then tap Resume to continue from the same time. Your laps are kept while paused.

How is the average lap worked out?

The average lap is the total of all lap times divided by the number of laps, which equals the time at your last lap divided by the lap count. The time after your last Lap tap is not included until you record it.

Why aren't my fastest and slowest laps marked?

The markers appear only once you have at least two laps, since a single lap cannot be compared. The fastest lap gets a green up arrow and the slowest a red down arrow in the laps table.

What does Copy laps copy?

It copies one line per lap, like Lap 1: 01:02.35 (total 01:02.35), ready to paste into notes, WhatsApp or a spreadsheet. With no laps recorded, it copies the current time on the stopwatch instead.

Can I undo a Reset?

No. Reset clears the time and all laps straight away, and there is no undo. Tap Copy laps first if you want to keep your lap times and totals.

Can it time more than an hour?

Yes, there is no upper limit. Under an hour the display shows minutes, seconds and hundredths, like 59:59.99, and after that it adds hours, like 1:00:00.00.

Is a phone stopwatch accurate enough for a 100 m sprint?

The clock is precise, but the person tapping is not: human reaction time is often around 0.2 seconds at the start and finish. Hand timing is fine for practice and comparing your own runs, but it is not as accurate as electronic timing at a race.

Does the stopwatch keep running if I refresh or switch apps?

Yes. It works from the real clock and saves its state, so it keeps counting if you refresh, switch apps or even close the tab. Your laps are kept too, until you tap Reset.

Can I save my laps as a spreadsheet?

Yes. Tap "Download CSV" to get a file with each lap time and the running total in seconds. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.

Are there keyboard shortcuts?

On a computer: Space starts or pauses, L records a lap, R resets and F opens full screen. They don't work while you are typing in a box.

How do I make the numbers bigger?

Tap the full screen button at the top right of the stopwatch. The time fills the whole screen, which is handy for a class, a gym or timing someone from across the room.
