Date Difference Calculator

Count the days between two dates, also shown in weeks and days, with or without counting the end date.

About the Date Difference Calculator

The Date Difference Calculator counts the days between two dates and also shows the gap in weeks, calendar months and years, hours and minutes, plus how many of those days are weekdays and weekends. Buttons set either date to today or swap them, and if today falls in the range, a progress bar shows how much of it has passed.

What you can do with the Date Difference Calculator

Counting the end date or not

By default the result is the number of days between the two dates, the way you'd count nights in a hotel: 1 March to 3 March is 2 days. Leave periods, visa stays or event durations often count both the first and last day, tap "Count both dates" for that, which is always one more.

Common uses

Planning countdowns to exams, trips or weddings; checking how long ago something happened; counting notice periods; working out a project length; or checking eligibility dates that depend on a number of days.

Working days instead of calendar days

The weekdays box gives a quick Monday-to-Friday count. If you need a six-day week, holidays or working hours, use the Working Days Calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days are there between two dates?

Pick the two dates and the calculator subtracts them, accounting for each month's real length and any leap days in between.

Does it count weekends?

The main result counts every calendar day. The Weekdays and Weekend days boxes split that total for you.

What if I put the dates in the wrong order?

The number of days is still shown, with a note that the end date is before the start. The ⇄ Swap button puts them the right way round.

Should I count both the start and end dates?

For leave, hotel-style counts of days and event durations, people usually count both dates. Leave from Monday 2 March to Friday 6 March 2026 is 4 days by default but 5 days with "Count both dates" selected. For age or a gap between two events, leave it off.

How many days are there in a year?

A normal year has 365 days and a leap year, such as 2028, has 366. From 1 January to 31 December 2026 the tool shows 364 days because the end date is not counted; choose "Count both dates" to get 365.

Does the weekday count exclude public holidays?

No. Weekdays here are simply Monday to Friday, and weekend days are Saturday and Sunday. For working days that exclude holidays or use a Sunday-only weekly off, use the site's Working Days calculator.

How is the Calendar figure different from total days?

Calendar shows the gap in years, months and days, counting real calendar months that can have 28 to 31 days. Total days is the exact count. For example, 1 January to 31 December 2026 is 364 days, shown in Calendar as 11m 30d.

How do I count days from today to a deadline?

Tap "Start = today", then enter the deadline as the end date. The tool shows the days left, plus how many are weekdays. For time passed since an event, enter the event as the start date and tap "End = today".

What does the progress bar show?

If today falls between the start and end dates, a bar shows what percentage of the period has passed, with the days gone and days to go. It is handy for tracking a notice period, a project, a semester or a loan moratorium.

How do I convert days into weeks?

Divide by 7 and keep the remainder as days. The Weeks box does this for you, so 100 days shows as 14w 2d. The tool also shows the total in hours and minutes, which are the days multiplied by 24 and by 1,440.

How many weekdays are there in 2026?

From 1 January to 31 December 2026, counting both dates, there are 261 weekdays (Monday to Friday) and 104 weekend days. Without counting the end date, a Thursday, it shows 260 weekdays out of 364 days.
