GPA Calculator

Weighted GPA from grades and credits.

About the GPA Calculator

The GPA Calculator works out a weighted SGPA, CGPA or GPA from your courses. Enter each course with its grade and credits, on the Indian 10-point scale or the US 4.0 scale, and see the result, the total credits, a rough percentage, and a chart of grade points by course.

What you can do with the GPA Calculator

How a weighted GPA works

Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credits, the results are added up, and the total is divided by the total number of credits. A top grade in a 4-credit course lifts your GPA more than the same grade in a 2-credit course.

Grade scales

Most Indian universities follow the UGC 10-point scale: O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, P = 4 and F = 0. The US 4.0 scale runs from A = 4 down to F = 0 with plus and minus steps. If your institution uses different points, pick "Custom" for that course and type them in.

Converting to a percentage

There's no single universal formula. CBSE has used percentage ≈ CGPA × 9.5, which is shown as a guide, while many universities publish their own rule. Always use the formula on your marksheet or your university's official notice when a percentage is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between SGPA and CGPA?

SGPA is the grade point average for one semester. CGPA is the cumulative average across all semesters, enter all your courses to get it.

What if my university uses different grade points?

Choose "Custom" in the grade box and type the exact points for that course.

Is a 3.5 GPA good?

On a 4.0 scale, 3.5 is generally considered strong, but expectations vary by institution and programme.

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

It depends on your board or university. CBSE uses CGPA x 9.5, which the tool shows as a rough estimate, so 8.62 is about 81.9%. Some universities, such as VTU, use (CGPA - 0.75) x 10. Always use the formula printed on your marksheet or university rules.

How do I calculate CGPA from my semester SGPAs?

Add one row per semester, choose Custom as the grade, type the SGPA as the grade points and the semester's total credits as credits. The result is the credit-weighted CGPA. If your university uses a simple average of SGPAs, check its rules.

What grade points does the 10-point scale use?

The tool uses the common UGC scale: O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, P = 4 and F = 0. Many Indian universities follow this, but some use different letters or points, which you can enter with Custom.

Does a failed course pull down my SGPA?

In this calculator an F counts as 0 grade points with its full credits, so it lowers the result. Many universities treat a failed course differently once you clear it in a supplementary exam, so check how your university records it.

Why is my GPA weighted by credits?

Courses with more credits involve more teaching hours, so their grades count more. An O in a 2-credit lab affects your SGPA less than an A in a 4-credit core subject. The tool multiplies grade points by credits and divides by total credits.

How do I add or remove courses?

Tap "+ Add course" for a new row with a default A grade and 3 credits, then edit its name, grade and credits. Tap the x at the end of a row to remove it. Credits can be in steps of 0.5, and rows with 0 credits are ignored.

Can I convert my Indian CGPA to a 4.0 GPA?

There is no single official conversion. Universities abroad and credential evaluators such as WES use their own methods, often grade by grade. Switching to the 4.0 scale here recalculates with US letter grades but does not convert your Indian grades.

What SGPA do I need to reach a target CGPA?

Multiply the target CGPA by the total credits including the coming semester, subtract the credit points you already have, and divide by the next semester's credits. Use the credit points shown under the result as the figure you already have.
