About the CGPA to Percentage Calculator
The CGPA to Percentage Calculator converts a CGPA on the 10-point scale into a percentage. Slide or type your CGPA, choose the formula your board or university uses, and see the result with every common formula side by side.

- All formulas side by side: Compare common conversions at once.
- Instant: The percentage updates as you slide.
The CBSE formula
CBSE has used percentage = CGPA × 9.5. The 9.5 comes from averaging the marks of students in each grade band, so it's an estimate rather than your exact marks.
Universities use different rules
Many universities publish their own conversion: some multiply by 10, others subtract 0.5 or 0.75 first (the VTU style). The table shows them all, so you can see how much the choice matters.
Which one to use
Always use the formula printed on your marksheet, grade card or your university's official notice when a form asks for a percentage. If none is given, the CBSE × 9.5 rule is the most widely recognised in India.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
For CBSE, multiply by 9.5, 8.4 × 9.5 = 79.8%. Other formulas are shown in the table.
What is 9 CGPA in percentage?
85.5% by the CBSE rule (9 × 9.5), or 90% with a simple × 10.
Can I convert back?
Yes, with the Percentage to CGPA Calculator.
What is 7.5 CGPA in percentage?
By the CBSE rule (× 9.5), 7.5 CGPA is 71.25%. A simple × 10 gives 75%, the VTU-style (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 gives 67.5%, and (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 gives 70%, so use your own board or university's rule.
Is 6 CGPA equal to 60%?
Only under a simple × 10 rule. By the CBSE rule it is 57%, by the VTU-style rule 52.5% and by (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 it is 55%. If a job or exam form asks for 60%, check which rule your university officially uses.
What is the highest percentage under the CBSE formula?
A perfect 10 CGPA converts to 95% under the CBSE rule, because 10 × 9.5 = 95. That is why the CBSE result never shows 100% here, while the simple × 10 rule does.
Does CBSE still give CGPA in Class 10?
CBSE used CGPA for Class 10 under its CCE system from 2010 to 2017. Since 2018, Class 10 board results show marks again. The × 9.5 rule is mainly needed for older CBSE marksheets.
How do I know which formula my university uses?
Look at the back of your marksheet or transcript, your university's ordinance, or an official notice; many print the conversion rule there. If you still are not sure, ask the exam section. The table here shows all four common formulas side by side.
Why do the formulas give such different percentages?
Each university sets its own rule. For a CGPA of 8.4, the four formulas give 79.8%, 84%, 76.5% and 79%, a gap of 7.5 percentage points. Always quote the result from your institution's official formula.
Can I convert my SGPA instead of my CGPA?
The calculator accepts any value on the 10-point scale, so the maths works the same. SGPA is for one semester and CGPA is the overall average, and most forms ask for the overall figure. Follow your university's rule on which one to convert.
Can I use this for a 4-point GPA?
No. This tool works only with CGPA on the 10-point scale used by most Indian boards and universities. A 4.0 GPA uses a different scale, and when applying abroad, evaluation agencies such as WES make their own conversions from your marksheets.
