Text Cleaner
Clean messy pasted text with switchable rules: trim spaces, remove blank or duplicate lines, strip HTML, bullets and emojis, straighten quotes or join lines.
About the Text Cleaner
Text copied from PDFs, spreadsheets, emails and websites often arrives with stray spaces, empty lines, repeated rows, bullet points, HTML tags or curly quotes. The Text Cleaner has eight rules you can switch on and off in any combination, and the clean text updates instantly as you tap them.
What you can do with the Text Cleaner
- Eight clean-up rules: Extra spaces, empty lines, duplicates, bullets, HTML tags, curly quotes and more.
- Mix and match: Switch any rule on or off and the result updates instantly.
- Made for messy pastes: Perfect for text copied from PDFs, spreadsheets, emails and websites.
- One-tap replace: Line and character counts, then swap your text for the clean version.
What each rule does
"Trim extra spaces" removes spaces at the start and end of every line and shrinks runs of spaces to one. "Remove blank lines" deletes empty lines. "Remove duplicate lines" keeps the first copy of each line. "Remove bullets & numbering" strips "•", "-", "1." and "a)" from the start of lines. "Strip HTML tags" removes anything in angle brackets. "Straighten quotes & dashes" turns curly quotes into plain ones and long dashes into hyphens. "Remove emojis" does what it says, and "Join lines into one paragraph" puts everything on one line.
Where it helps most
Preparing an email list before importing it into a newsletter tool, removing repeated keywords from an SEO list, tidying text pasted from a PDF, cleaning a column copied out of a spreadsheet, or turning a bulleted list from a document into plain lines.
Keep going from the clean version
Tap "Replace my text with the clean version" to move the result back into the input box, then switch on more rules or paste it into another tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Text Cleaner change the order of my lines?
No. Lines stay in their original order; removing duplicates only drops the later copies of a line.
Are "Apple" and "apple" treated as duplicates?
Yes. Duplicate lines are compared ignoring capitals and extra spaces, and the first version is kept.
Does it remove repeated words inside a sentence?
No. It works on whole lines. A line is only removed if the entire line appears earlier in the text.
Is there a limit on how much text I can clean?
There's no fixed limit. Everything runs in your browser, so very large lists are handled as fast as your device allows.
How do I remove extra spaces from text copied from a PDF?
Paste it in and keep "Trim extra spaces" switched on. It removes spaces at the start and end of every line and shrinks runs of spaces or tabs into a single space. Add "Remove blank lines" to close up empty gaps as well.
Which clean-up rules are on when the page opens?
Three rules start switched on: Trim extra spaces, Remove blank lines and Remove duplicate lines. The others, such as stripping HTML tags, removing bullets, straightening quotes and removing emojis, are off until you tap them, and the result updates as soon as you do.
Why did "Strip HTML tags" remove part of my normal text?
It deletes anything between a < and the next >, so plain text like "price < 500 and > 100" loses the words in between. Switch the rule off for text that uses these signs as maths. Entities such as & are also left as they are.
Which bullets and numbering does it remove?
It removes -, *, •, ▪, ◦, ·, ‣ and > at the start of a line, numbers up to three digits followed by . or ), and single letters like a) or B. when a space follows. It can also clip a leading initial, so "A. R. Rahman" becomes "R. Rahman".
Why should I straighten curly quotes and dashes?
Curly quotes, long dashes and the single ellipsis character from Word or websites can break code, CSV files and some online forms. The rule turns them into plain ' and " quotes, a normal hyphen and three full stops, which every system reads correctly.
Does "Remove emojis" also remove symbols like ticks and stars?
It can. The rule removes the main emoji ranges, flags and many older symbols, including characters such as ✓, ✔, ★ and ☀. If your text uses ticks or stars as bullets you want to keep, leave this rule off.
How do I clean text in several passes?
Tap "Replace my text with the clean version" to move the cleaned result back into the input box. You can then switch different rules on and run another round. The Lines and Characters boxes show how much each pass removed.
