Random Number Generator

Generate one or many random whole numbers in any range, with optional no-repeat and sorting, for draws, games and sampling.

About the Random Number Generator

The Random Number Generator picks one or many random whole numbers between a minimum and maximum you choose, both included. Quick presets cover common draws: 1 to 10, dice, a 6-of-49 lottery, 4 random digits, and you can prevent repeats, sort the results, and look back at your previous draws.

What you can do with the Random Number Generator

Fair by design

Numbers come from your browser's cryptographically secure random generator, and a technique called rejection sampling makes sure every number in the range has exactly the same chance, some simpler generators slightly favour certain numbers.

No repeats

With "No repeats" on, each number appears at most once, which is what you want for lottery-style draws, raffle tickets or picking a random sample. You can't ask for more unique numbers than the range contains: 1 to 10 has only ten.

Common uses

Drawing raffle or lottery numbers, choosing random survey participants by number, deciding turn order, generating test data, or settling disagreements fairly. The previous-draws list makes it easy to show everyone the earlier results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the minimum and maximum included?

Yes. A range of 1 to 6 can produce 1, 6 or anything between.

Is this truly random?

It uses a cryptographically secure generator seeded by your device's operating system, unpredictable and suitable for fair draws.

Can I generate decimal numbers?

This tool generates whole numbers only.

How do I generate Tambola or Housie numbers?

Set the minimum to 1, the maximum to 90, How many numbers to 90 and keep No repeats on. You get all 90 numbers in a random calling order. Leave Sort results off, otherwise they will appear in number order.

What are the odds of winning a 6-of-49 lottery?

There are 13,983,816 possible combinations of 6 numbers from 49, so one ticket has about a 1 in 14 million chance of matching all six. Tap the Lottery 6 of 49 preset to draw a random set; it doesn't make any set more likely to win.

How do I pick random roll numbers from a class?

Set the minimum to 1 and the maximum to the class size, such as 60, choose how many students you need and keep No repeats on so nobody is picked twice. Turn on Sort results if you want the roll numbers listed in order.

Can I use negative numbers?

Yes. Enter a negative minimum, such as −10, and the draw includes every whole number from −10 up to your maximum. If you type the minimum and maximum the wrong way round, the tool swaps them for you.

Why does it say there aren't enough numbers?

With No repeats on, you can't draw more numbers than exist in the range. Asking for 5 numbers from 1 to 3 is impossible because there are only 3 different numbers. Widen the range, ask for fewer numbers, or turn No repeats off.

What is the chance of getting a particular number?

Every number in the range is equally likely, so for one number from 1 to 100 each has a 1 in 100, or 1%, chance. Earlier draws don't affect the next one, so a number that just came up is as likely as any other to appear again.

How many numbers can I draw at once?

Up to 1,000 numbers in one draw, set with the How many numbers stepper. For several numbers the tool also shows their sum and average, and every draw is kept in Previous draws while the page stays open.

What does the 4 digits preset do?

It draws four numbers from 0 to 9 with repeats allowed, which gives you a random four-digit code such as 0 7 7 3. This is useful for a quick code or a test value; for a PIN, the site's separate PIN generator also skips easy-to-guess patterns.
