Random Name Picker

Pick one or several random winners from a list of names or entries, fair, quick and ideal for giveaways, raffles and classrooms.

About the Random Name Picker

The Random Name Picker chooses one or several winners from a list of names or entries, with a spinning reveal that's fun to show on a screen. It can also split the list into random teams, ignore duplicate entries, remove winners from the list so they can't be picked again, and keeps a list of earlier picks.

What you can do with the Random Name Picker

Fair for everyone

The list is shuffled using the Fisher–Yates method and your browser's secure randomness, then the top entries become the winners, so every entry has exactly the same chance. The spinning names are just for show, the winner is decided the moment you tap Pick.

Duplicates and repeat draws

If people entered more than once, "Ignore duplicate entries" makes sure each name counts only once (capitals don't matter). Switch it off when duplicates are intentional, such as extra entries in a giveaway. "Remove winners from the list" takes each winner out so the next pick is from the rest.

Making teams

"Make teams" shuffles everyone and deals them into the number of teams you choose, like dealing cards, so teams are as even in size as possible. It's handy for classrooms, sports and office quizzes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pick more than one winner?

Yes. Set "How many winners" and they're shown in the order drawn, with medals for the top three.

Can it split people into teams?

Yes. Choose "Make teams", set the number of teams and tap the button.

Is the draw saved anywhere?

No. Names never leave your device, and the results disappear when you leave the page.

Can I paste names from Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Copy a single column of names and paste it into the box; each cell becomes its own line, which is the format the picker needs. Blank lines are ignored and extra spaces at the start or end of a name are trimmed.

How do I run a lucky draw with several rounds?

Switch on Remove winners from the list, then pick one round at a time. Each winner is removed, so they can't be picked again in a later round. Every pick is kept in Earlier picks while the page is open, so you have a record of each round.

How does Ignore duplicate entries work?

It keeps only the first copy of any name that appears more than once, ignoring capital letters, so Rahul and rahul count as one entry. The count below the box shows how many entries remain. Turn it off if two different people share a name.

Can I give someone more chances to win?

Yes. Turn off Ignore duplicate entries and add that name more than once; each line counts as one entry. Someone listed three times in a list of 30 entries has a 1 in 10 chance on a single pick. Make sure everyone knows the rules beforehand.

What happens when names don't divide equally into teams?

Names are dealt from a shuffled list one team at a time, so team sizes never differ by more than one. For example, 10 names split into 3 teams gives teams of 4, 3 and 3. The tool makes at most as many teams as there are names.

What is the chance of each person being picked?

Every entry has an equal chance. With 30 names and 1 winner, each person has a 1 in 30 chance; with 3 winners, each has a 1 in 10 chance of being among them. Nobody can win twice in one pick.

How many winners or teams can I pick?

You can pick from 1 to 100 winners at once, shown in order as first, second, third and so on, and split the list into anywhere from 2 to 50 teams. Your list needs at least as many entries as the number of winners you want.

Can I show the draw on a projector or TV?

Yes. Open the page on the connected screen, paste your list and tap Pick; the names spin before stopping on the winner, which works well for classrooms, office events and giveaways. Zoom the browser in if you need the text bigger for a large room.
