Dice Roller

Roll up to 50 virtual dice: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 or d100, and see each roll and the total.

About the Dice Roller

The Dice Roller rolls up to 20 virtual dice at once in all the common shapes: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100. Six-sided dice are drawn with real pips, you can add or subtract a modifier like +3, and it shows the total, the highest and lowest die, the possible range and a history of your last rolls.

What you can do with the Dice Roller

Dice notation

Tabletop games describe rolls like "2d6+3": two six-sided dice plus 3. "1d20" is one twenty-sided die. Choose the dice type, the number of dice and the modifier to match whatever your game asks for; the result line shows the roll in that notation.

Why 7 is the most common total

With two six-sided dice, there are six ways to make 7 (1+6, 2+5, 3+4 and the reverses) out of 36 combinations, so it comes up one time in six. Totals of 2 or 12 have only one combination each, so they appear just once in 36 rolls on average.

Fair rolls every time

Each die is an independent result from a secure random generator, so there's no wear, weighting or throwing technique to bias the outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does d20 mean?

A twenty-sided die. The number after the "d" is the number of sides.

Can I add a bonus to my roll?

Yes. Use the "Add or subtract (modifier)" slider for anything from −10 to +10.

Can I roll different types of dice together?

Roll each type separately and add the totals, the history keeps each roll so you can add them up.

What is the most likely total with two dice?

7 is the most likely total with two six-sided dice: 6 of the 36 possible combinations add up to 7, a 1 in 6 or about 16.7% chance. Totals of 2 and 12 are the rarest, each with just a 1 in 36 chance.

What are the chances of rolling a 6 in Ludo?

With one die, the chance of a 6 is 1 in 6, about 16.7%. The chance of at least one 6 in three rolls is about 42.1%, so waiting several turns to get a piece out is normal. Set Number of dice to 1 and keep d6 for Ludo or Snakes and Ladders.

How do I roll with advantage in D&D?

Pick d20 and set Number of dice to 2, then roll. The result line shows the highest and lowest die, so use the highest for advantage or the lowest for disadvantage. Ignore the total for this roll, since it adds both dice.

How do I roll a percentile die?

Choose d100 to get a number from 1 to 100 in one roll. Tabletop games often make this with two d10s, one for tens and one for units, but a single d100 gives the same evenly spread result.

How is the possible range worked out?

The lowest total is the number of dice plus the modifier, and the highest is the number of dice × sides plus the modifier. For 2d6+3, that is 2 + 3 = 5 up to 12 + 3 = 15. The tool shows this range under every roll.

How many dice can I roll and how big a modifier can I add?

You can roll from 1 to 20 dice of one type at a time. The modifier slider goes from −10 to +10 and is added once to the total, not to each die, which matches how most tabletop games write rolls like 3d8+2.

Where can I see my earlier rolls?

Each tap on Roll adds a line to Roll history showing the dice, each result and the total, such as 2d6: 4 5 → 9. It keeps your last 10 rolls while the page is open and clears when you leave or reload.

Are virtual dice fairer than real dice?

Each virtual die uses a secure random generator, so every face has exactly the same chance. Real dice can be slightly uneven because of drilled pips, rounded edges or the surface you roll on, though the effect is usually tiny for casual games.
